Indoors

Planting indoors can be a challenge, because plants don’t get as much light as they do outside. Make sure you have a very sunny window spot for you indoor veggies.

Outdoors

If you have the space, we recommend planting outdoors – in the ground, a garden box, or even just a planter on the fire escape.

The Ground

Planting outside in the earth will give you lots of space, but you may need to break up your soil if it’s too dense.

A Raised Bed

A garden box or raised bed looks great and has lots of space for veggies, but you’ll need lots of soil to fill it.

A Container

Container gardens come in all shapes and sizes – from small planters, to grow bags, and old buckets. You can find a container to fit your space – just make sure it’s well drained.

A Windowsill

A small herb garden in the window will keep you in flavor all year long – but make sure you’ve got good light!

Full Sun

Many plants – espeically vegetables – need full sun to thrive. That means at least 6 hours of direct sunshine a day, preferably even more.

Partial Sun

If your garden spot gets between 4 and 6 hours of direct light, there are still lots of veggies you can grow.

Not enough sun?

You can still try growing partial sun veggies – just find the sunniest spot you can.
